General Admissions Admissions

To apply to Blanche Macdonald, you must complete the following General Admissions Requirments:

  • Completion of Grade 11 or 19 years of age at the start of the student’s program of study.Meet one of the following English Language Proficiency Admission Requirements:
    • a) Completion of 3 years of full-time secondary (Grades 8-12) or 2 years of full-time post-secondary education in a country where English is the language of instruction, or

    • b)  Achievement in a recognized standardized language test/assessment at an overall level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (academic) or higher.  Talk to our Admissions Directors to find out more.

      Blanche Macdonald recognizes the following evaluations and corresponding scores that meet the English Language requirement:

      International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: Minimum overall score of 5.5.
      Test of English as a Foreign Language IBT (TOEFL): Minimum overall score of 46.
      Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP): Listening 6, Speaking 6, Reading 5 and Writing 5.
      Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL): Minimum overall score of 40.
      Duolingo English Test (DET): Minimum overall score of 95.
      Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Minimum overall score of 43.
      Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First exam (FCE): Minimum overall score of 160 or “C”.
      Cambridge Linguaskill: Minimum overall B2 level.
      LANGUAGECERT Academic: Minimum overall B2 level.
      The Michigan English Test (MET): Minimum overall B2 level. iTEP Academic: Minimum overall score of 3.5.
      EIKEN: Minimum placement of Grade Pre-1.

  • Submit a completed Application form to the Blanche Macdonald Centre; and
  • Complete an interview with an Admissions Director (for applicants who live out of town or out of the country, interviews can be conducted over the telephone). 

To be considered officially enrolled in a Program, all Applicants must:

  • Meet the above admissions requirements;
  • Pay a Tuition deposit in full; and
  • Sign their Official Enrolment Agreements

Letters of Acceptance for Funding or Immigration purposes will be issued once the above criteria have been met.

Admission Policy

Blanche Macdonald Centre is committed to enrolling students who meet program admission requirements and who are likely to succeed in achieving their education and career goals.

Neither the Blanche Macdonald Centre nor the applicant may waive the admission requirements.

Admission Requirements for all programs (except Fashion Design / Fashion Design Co-op) :

  • Completion of Grade 11 or 19 years of age at the start of the student’s program of study.
  • Complete of English Language Proficiency Admission Requirements:
    • Completion of 3 years of full-time secondary (Grades 8-12) or 2 years of full-time post-secondary education in a country where English is the language of instruction, or
    • Achievement in a recognized standardized language test/assessment at an overall level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (academic) or higher.

Admission Requirements for Fashion Design and Fashion Design Co-op programs:

  • Completion of Grade 11 or 19 years of age at the start of the student’s program of study.
  • Complete of English Language Proficiency Admission Requirements:
    • Completion of 3 years of full-time secondary (Grades 8-12) or 2 years of full-time post-secondary education in a country where English is the language of instruction, or
    • Achievement in a recognized standardized language test/assessment at an overall level equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (academic) or higher.
  • Must submit a garment constructed entirely by student or attend Blanche Macdonald Centre Basic Sewing Course.
